Sensex, Nifty Extend Losses Amid Global Trade Concerns
Benchmark indices in India continued their downward trajectory past midday, with the Sensex dropping 0.38% to 82,188.73 and the Nifty falling by an equivalent margin to 25,188.85. Persistent U.S.-China trade tensions and profit-taking in IT and auto sectors weighed on sentiment.
Market breadth remained weak, with decliners outpacing advancers nearly 2-to-1 on the BSE. Sectoral indices across the board showed losses, led by Nifty Next 50's 0.56% decline. Adani Ports emerged as a rare bright spot, gaining 1.45% amid selective buying in infrastructure-related stocks.
